Not only was Joel a good business woman and a skilled writer, but she was also an eloquent speaker. At the age of 40, Joel began to lecture at clubs and social groups about home planning, designing, and decorating. Because of her business success and speaking acumen, Joel was well received at local engagements and fund-raisers. Joel spoke in various cities throughout the state including Indianapolis. Newspaper articles from around the state praised Joel’s accomplishments.[i]
